It’s a funny story actually. I worked as a waitress at The Celtic Manor in Newport Gwent from the age of 17-20. Every now and again, I would see the Events Manager with her clients, showing them around and having endless cups of tea, laughing at ideas and enjoying the couples’ company. I would purposefully rush over to serve her just so I could have an insight into what she was talking about. I hung around her table like a fly trying to get a glimpse of what it was to be her!
Since then, I have dreamed of being a Wedding Planner so I could be just like her! One friend said to me recently ‘You are now the lady we used to see at The Celtic!’
What do you love (and not love) about your job?
I honestly don’t think there is one thing I don’t like about a Wedding. Sore feet after a long day? I don’t know. But I am so passionate about my profession. Watching the Bride walk down the aisle to meet the Groom is probably what I love most. You see couples that get so tied up in the planning that they forget what they are actually doing it for. To to see the couple lay eyes on each other as she walks down the aisle is the most precious moment. Also, I have a creative background – so I absolutely love coming up with fresh, new ideas and being able to share this with a couple really is something to behold.
What advice would you give to a potential bride & groom?
Remember the reason you are getting married and spend some time together, just the two of you to reflect on that. You are together because you love each other and have expressed that through a binding contract. You’ll see family you haven’t seen in years and may end up separating on the night to talk to others. Take 5 minutes, just as husband and wife, away from photographers & guests. Reflect & cherish the moment.
What do potential & existing couples need to do now?
